David Streeter: Photography/Workshops
I've twice been shortlisted and received a Judges Choice and Highly Commended in the Landscape Photography of the Year awards. Previous patrons have included Brighton based singer Jimmy Somerville (Communards/Bronski Beat). In an effort to make my work as eco-friendly as possible we now source frames from charity or junk shops, which are then given sympathetic hand-painted treatments by Lucy Palmer, to give a unique look to each piece. Limited edition prints are produced using the Giclee fine art process to create fully archival prints with incredibly fine detail.
If you’re a keen photographer looking to be more creative, then why not join one of my full day Photo Workshops, roving along Brighton’s seafront, Gift Vouchers available.
Louise Erskine: Watercolor
I'm a watercolour and acrylic painter living in Hove, East Sussex. I graduated from MMU (Crewe and Alsager College) with a BA Hons Creative Arts degree. From a creative family of painters and musicians, I was encouraged to explore the arts through drawing, painting, photography, music and even drama. After University, I continued to paint recreationally, always keen to experiment with different painting styles and techniques. I work predominantly in watercolour, and my choice of subject, usually gravitates towards Sussex landscapes and seascapes or from floral inspirations found in the garden.
Lizzie Kershaw: Jewellery
I'm a Brighton based jewellery designer/maker who has been making jewellery for many years and have exhibited at craft fairs all over the country. From 2009 to December 2016 I traded at Covent Garden Apple Market. All my work is handmade in silver and gold, from large scale chokers and neck-pieces through to bracelets, earrings, etc.
Paula Gomes: Painting
This will be my first Artists Open House show. I'm a Brazilian artist, recently relocated to the UK. Digital artist and designer by profession, and an artist working on oil paintings as a hobby turned passion, turned professional aspiration. My work relies heavily on traditional portrait techniques.
Tezel Bahcheli: Sculpture
This is my first Open House show, with my work shown in both the house and garden. Currently living and working in Lewes. I am a local sculptor working in clay. I am interested in the human and animal forms, gaining inspiration from the natural world and the emotive context. I work often in a course, gritty stoneware which helps to reflect the flaws and imperfections of creation. My sculpture explores life, movement and expression. My work is small; many pieces able to sit on mantelpieces or shelves. They can also be placed outside and are weatherproof.
Nicole Urbanski: Textiles
Following training as a dressmaker at a couture atelier in Düsseldorf, I arrived in London in 1987 with a sewing machine in my rucksack.
Within the first six months of arrival I was fortunate to be employed by the BBC and worked on costumes for television, national and international movies, alongside designers such as Lindy Hemming and Jean Paul Gaultier.
I fell in love with Sussex whilst making costumes for Glyndebourne Festival Opera and decided to stay in Brighton. With a desire to return to fashion,
I designed my first independent collection in 1997.
'Nicole Urbanski Boutique' opened in 2011, where I stocked my own label, offered a bespoke service, as well as collections from France, Germany and Denmark.
Em Erskine: Textiles
I'm a printed textile designer living in Hove, East Sussex. I graduated in 2021 from Winchester School of Art, with a BA. (Hons) Fashion and Textile Design degree. Most of my work has been inspired by the Sussex coastline and South Downs and combines my love for colour and texture in combination with her playful, abstract style, to create illustrative textile pieces.
Christos Makropoulos: Touchwood Jewellery
These jewels are made by pieces of wood mostly collected from the woods and beaches of Greece where I come from. Each tree has its own story to tell which is magically written in its body. This is what I felt from the first time I worked with wood and I instantly felt connected with it. Trees are valuable jewels of Earth and I believe they are the most interesting and sustainable material to make jewellery.
The variety of natural colours and patterns that wood is gifted with, inspires me to create unique rings, each with its own personality as the wood itself is leading me to how it wants to be made. The rings are shaped and sanded smooth, entirely by hand and are finished with natural oils, lovingly giving to each one the time and attention they deserve. Enjoy this everyday chance to be beautifully connected with NATURE….
Hannah Weber: Photography
Originally from Canada, I moved to the UK in 2016 and settled in Hove shortly after. A writer and culture critic by trade, I began using photography as an accompaniment to travel pieces before it took on a life of its own. I work exclusively with a 1984 Pentax — a light and hardy workhorse 35mm film camera that has driven my interest in landscapes, architecture, and domestic spaces across Europe. I have small- and medium-sized prints available, as well as a selection of postcards.
Lucy Palmer: Bespoke Framing & Homemade preserves
David’s aim is to minimize the environmental impact of his work, so in keeping with that I’ve been sourcing picture frames from Charity and Junk shops, even the odd Manor house clearance, then carefully reworked them with sympathetic hand finished treatments and decoration to complement and enhance the impact of the work. If you have an artwork that needs framing then get in touch. I also create the Homemade cakes and preserves in the garden cafe!
Sue Elderfield: Mosaics
This May I'll be showing a wide selection of mosaics, perfect to brighten up any corner of your garden, including Hedgehogs, Butterflies, Robins and the odd Albion supporting Seagull of course!
