Artist Sarah Bagg's opens her home in memory of a dear friend and to support Cancer Research UK.
For many artists, participating in events like Artists Open Houses (AOH) is a chance to showcase their work, connect with the community, and share their passion. But for Sarah, this year's AOH holds a deeper, more profound significance. It's a tribute to a lost friend, a celebration of life, and a powerful act of support for Cancer Research UK.
This past year brought a stark reminder of the importance of pursuing one's passions and dedicating time to what truly matters. Sarah tragically lost her dear friend and life coach, Dave, to cancer. Dave was more than just a friend; he was a mentor who helped her understand her "why" – the driving force behind her creative endeavours. He instilled in her the importance of dedicating time to her passions and nurturing the relationships that surround them.
"Dave taught me so much about myself," she reflects. "I honestly don't think I would have started opening my home for AOH without his words of wisdom and encouragement."
This year, the artist is dedicating her AOH to Dave, honouring his unwavering support and friendship. It’s a way to keep his memory alive and to share the positive impact he had on her life.
Sadly, cancer's reach hasn't stopped there. The past year has also seen the artist's brother diagnosed with skin cancer and a friend currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. This personal connection to the disease has only strengthened her resolve to make a difference.
"To all those that are coping with ongoing treatment, the emotional pressure it puts everyone under, my heart goes out to you," she says, extending her empathy and support to those battling this challenging journey.
This year's AOH isn't just about showcasing art; it's about raising awareness and much-needed funds for Cancer Research UK. The artist is encouraging visitors to donate generously to this vital cause.
"Too many people are being affected by this horrible disease," she implores. "Please donate as much as you can afford."
By transforming her home into a gallery and fundraising platform, the artist is turning personal loss and hardship into a powerful act of hope and support.
If you're looking for a way to appreciate art, connect with the community, and contribute to a worthy cause, visit this special AOH this May. You can find a link to the artist's 'Just Giving' page here, or donate in person during your visit.
Let's all join together to honour Dave's memory and support Cancer Research UK in their tireless efforts to fight this devastating disease. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference.
