The Flamingo House, Brighton & Hove's beloved artists' collective and year-round creative workshop space, is celebrating a remarkable milestone: ten years of fostering creativity, community, and wellbeing.

What began as an ambitious vision has blossomed into a thriving cultural establishment.

Where Art Meets Imagination: The Flamingo House Invites you to explore its creative vision.

The Flamingo  House burst onto Brighton & Hove’s creative scene in 2016, the brainchild of Artist Charlie Doodle. A decade later, it has become an important cornerstone of the city’s creative community and continues to grow. The Flamingo house offers creative workshops all year round and opens its doors to the public every weekend during the May Brighton Festival.

Nestled on the Hove Arts trail, The Flamingo House, Studio & Garden blends a charming interior with an expanding outdoor oasis. After a breath-taking 2025 renovation that added a new wing flowing seamlessly from indoor galleries to the garden, this venue now lets the elements become part of the artistic experience.

Step Inside The Flamingo House: A Captivating Artistic Experience at Brighton's Artists Open House Festival

Every year in May, thousands of visitors flock to experience a feast for the senses; a visual treat of Arts and crafts in all disciplines, where you can lounge under exotic banana trees and sculptures to sample mouth‑watering food from the garden pop-up café and enjoy creative workshops.

From Vision to Reality

What began as an ambitious dream has blossomed into something truly special. Charlie opened her home with a bold vision: to create a welcoming space where creativity thrives and everyone - regardless of experience- can discover their artistic potential. The Flamingo House transforms into an Artists open house every May welcoming thousands of visitors. Today, it stands as a testament to the power of accessible creativity and community-driven art.

A Space for Everyone

One of The Flamingo House's greatest strengths is its inclusive philosophy. Whether you're a complete beginner picking up a paintbrush for the first time or a seasoned art enthusiast looking to refine your craft, there's something here for you.

The workshop programme offers an impressive array of classes designed with relaxation and therapeutic fun at their core:

  • Soy wax candle making

  • Picasso pot painting

  • Christmas wreath making

  • Mosaic making

  • Flower crown or headdress making

  • Felt brooch making

Each class maintains an atmosphere of fun and experimentation rather than pressure or perfectionism—the perfect antidote to our fast-paced world.

The Heart of Brighton's Arts Scene

Beyond individual workshops, The Flamingo House has cultivated something invaluable: a thriving artistic community. This year’s open house event, they are showcasing the works of 19 professional local artists and visiting creatives, including AOH’s cover artist Alej Ez and award-winning artists providing inspiration and connection for visitors in Brighton & Hove.

The house’s track record of recognition—runner‑up for Best Artists Open House in 2016 and nominated again in 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023 and 2025 highlights its consistently high‑quality artistry and carefully curated show.

The Wellbeing Revolution

As we celebrate a decade of creativity, The Flamingo House's mission feels more relevant than ever. In an increasingly digital world, the tactile, meditative experience of creating something with your own hands offers genuine wellbeing benefits. Studies consistently show that engaging in creative activities reduces stress, boosts confidence, and enhances overall mental health.

For arts and crafts enthusiasts across the UK, The Flamingo House represents something inspiring: proof that dedicated creative spaces can thrive when built on community values and genuine passion.

Looking Forward

Built on success and passion, The Flamingo House shows no signs of slowing down. The Flamingo continues to expand its wings by showcasing new artists and developing innovative workshops that respond to all ages, abilities and interests.

Whether you're a local looking for your next creative experience or visiting Brighton and seeking an authentic cultural experience, step inside and discover something truly unique.

Ten years in, and the best is yet to come.
